David's Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone is very pleases to present to you this group of teachers based in Kenema, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. They have come to SMT to apply for a loan of 10,200,000 Sierra Leonean Leones for the entire team. With the help of this loan, they can meet their immediate and most pressing financial challenges.

David (pictured in the middle) is the featured leader of this group. A native of Gaima village, he is 56 years of age. He is married to a trader and the couple has 4 children – 1 in primary school and 3 in secondary school. David has been a professional teacher for 32 years now. He has requested for this loan in order to buy house-building materials – iron corrugated sheets, iron rods, etc., for the construction of a dwelling house for his family.
