A loan of $1,250 helped to buy fertlisers and manure for coffee crops.

Maria Lilian's story

María is a dynamic and happy young woman. Aged 27, she is married and has three children. The two oldest are in primary school and all three depend on María for everything. María herself completed primary school but could not continue with her education as her parents were poor and could not help with the costs. María learned to work in agriculture very young, thanks to her parents. She now works with her husband doing work such as cleaning, pruning and putting fertiliser on the plants as this is the only source of income for the family to pay household bills. María and her husband own the land they work, which is two kilometres from their home. They walk there every day.

María is currently applying for a loan to buy fertlisers, manure and other materials to maintain her coffee plants as with this she will be able to avoid plagues and other problems that would damage the crops.

María's dream is for her crops to be the most productive in the area, so that she can give her children a better standard of living and educate them up to university level. Then in the future they will have better opportunities in life as working in the field is difficult and profits are very low.
