A loan helped to purchase transplants and seedlings and to pay for labor costs in new markets.

Claudio's story

This loan will help Claudio expand his farming business.

Claudio grew up farming in Mexico, but when he moved to the U.S. over 20 years ago he worked in factories and warehouses to pay the bills. However, the single father of four never lost his passion for farming and seven years ago he rented a plot of land in upstate New York and began his own business, Gonzalez Farm.

Years later, Claudio now grows over 50 types of vegetables throughout the year and sells at six different markets and three separate CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) groups throughout New York. Claudio hopes to continue to expand his business so that one day he can support his family solely from the farm’s profits and will not have to continue working in factories for additional income.

He operates his business out of one greenhouse and hopes that he will be able to build at least two more within the year. The loyal father is now paying for his two oldest daughters to go to college while supporting his two youngest in middle school. He hopes to one day pass his business on to his children.

This loan will allow Claudio to purchase more seedlings in order to expand his production and to offer new products to his clients. The loan will also help Claudio attracts more clients by allowing him to pay for labor costs at new markets.
