A loan of $4,750 helped a member to buy grains, potatoes and fruits.

Sociedad 12 De Abril (Cuenca) Group's story

The April 12 Society community bank is formed of ten women who are traders and have formed a big family in a market in the city. They help each other and all have a common objective which is to improve their economic standing and get their families ahead. They live in the city of Cuenca which is bathed by four rivers. Its historic center still guards the memories of their past. It is the third most important city in the country.

One of the members of this group is Maria Agueda. She lives in the area of Totoracocha in the city of Cuenca. She is reentering the April 12 Society community bank, a group of which she has been a member for some time and that she likes for the companionship that exists among all the members.

Maria Agueda is 59 years old. She is a single mother to three adult children who are married and live independently. She does not have her own house so she rents.

She has worked in the city market for 18 years. Now she has her own shop where she is dedicated to selling fruit, vegetables, and grains. She works from Sunday to Sunday without a fixed schedule. This business has allowed her to get all of her family ahead.

The money of the loan will be invested in purchasing grains, potatoes and fruits to continue her business. Her dream is to have her own house. The small photo is of three members who could not be present when they took the group photo.
