A loan of $400 helped to build a wall around her business.

Paula Epifania's story

Paula is a woman who, at age 66, has a lot of vitality, cheerfulness and the charisma of a 20-year-old. Her house is in the city of Ica, which is known for its warm climate, tourist attractions such as "La Laguna de Huacachina" and "La Bruja de Cachiche", as well as its wine cellars and other spots.

Paula has experienced much adversities, including the loss of her husband who she loved so much. From that moment on she became both father and mother to her children. Despite everything, she was courageous and struggled a lot to get ahead. And after much saving and hard work she was able to set up a business selling vegetables in her city market. Paula works around nine hours a day and uses the profits from her work to cover household expenses. She believes things are going well because she is very kind to her customers and offers quality products at low prices.

Paula is very grateful for the support from Kiva lenders because thanks to their help she will be able to build a wall around her small stall which is now only protected by straw mats. This will give her business more safety and protect her merchandise, since her small business is the only source of income she has to continue working toward her biggest goal: "To finish construction on her home and to open a minimarket".
