A loan of $800 helped to purchase more maize, rice, sugar, and soap to sell.

Peace's story

Peace is 29 years old and lives in the town of Koboko, in the Arua region of Uganda. She is married and has five children, four of whom are currently in school. For the past ten years, Peace has been working hard to manage her retail shop, in which she sells soap, sugar, milk, and bread.

To help expand her business, Peace has requested a loan of UGX 2,000,000 (Ugandan shillings) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more maize, rice, sugar, and soap to sell and will help Peace to generate greater profits and pay school fees for her children. Peace hopes that, in the future, she will be able to open up another retail shop.

Peace is a member of BRAC Uganda's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs, like Peace, who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
