A loan of $1,575 helped to buy a display case and food products like rice and sugar, among others.

Marlene's story

Marlene, age 33, is married and has two minor children, ages 15 and 10. She has a house made from sturdy material where she shares her family experiences.

Her main job is tending to a grocery store, work she has been doing for five years. She says that before making a final choice about her current business she tried other commercial businesses. She ended up staying with selling products that are considered to be basic necessities and other products characteristic of her field.

Given that there were no other stores like this in her area, this work allowed her to make friends and become very well-known. To do a better job, she has the support of her children. They help her, whether it be with small jobs or taking care of the business.

This is her third loan with Kiva. She feels very grateful to have a monetary support that allows her to grow financially.

She now needs to have 4,000 soles to buy a display case in order to expand her business. She will also buy merchandise to stock her business. She will buy things like rice, sugar, vegetables, canned goods, and other products that are in great demand.
