Ruth's story

Ruth lives in the Likoni area of Coast Province, Kenya. She is a single mother of two children, both of whom are in school. She owns a retail shop and sells foodstuffs, household goods etc. She learnt about Milango through friends who invited her to the group and she joined with the aim of accessing credit to improve her business operations. Her main challenge is price instability. Ruth is applying for a loan of 107,250 Kenyan shillings to buy retail stock, e.g. maize, beans, rice and cooking fat. The extra income from the loan will be added to her savings to improve the living standards of her family and pay school fees for her children. She aspires to open a mini wholesale business.
