A loan of $1,100 helped to purchase perfumes, lotions, makeup, pants, shirts, and general clothing items.

Esmeralda Bibiana's story

In the Andrés De Vera parrish in the city of Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí, which has been known for many years as the “city of the authentic tamarind”, the members of the communal bank 4 De Agosto (4th of August) meet every fifteen days.

In this place lives Esmeralda. She is 53 years old and is in a common-law marriage. She has three children from a previous relationship who are grown and independent. Her husband works as an automotive mechanic.

Esmeralda is a homemaker. In order to have her own resources and help her husband with the household expenses, she works selling clothing and Avon products through a catalog (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and accessories for women).

She works three days per week on her routes, as her method of sales is door-to-door, although she also sells to her closest customers in their homes. She’s been doing this work for 5 years and it’s going very well for her.

She will use this loan to purchase perfumes, lotions, makeup, pants, shirts, and general clothing. She has been in the communal bank for three years, and she likes it because the loans allow her to move her business ahead.

Her dream is to have a small store to sell her clothing and all of her products.
