A loan of $400 helped to buy organic fertilizers.

Herminio's story

Herminio, a 41 year old, is a widower and has 5 children who he cares for in the house that he bought 18 years ago. Despite the difficulties that he has had in achieving upward mobility, he has always had the motivation to do so, yet he also has to care for his many children. Since he was very young, he has worked the earth, as his parents taught him the noble endeavor that is farming. He now works upon the hectares of land which he inherited, where he plants potatoes, corn, and peas in the highlands and fruits like apples, plantains, and citrus fruits in the warmer regions. He says that thank to the fertile lands which he possesses, he can make a good living, which helps him to grow his income as he sells each harvest in the country's capital city, where he travels every 15 days. He now wants to improve his profits by creating additional production and he hopes to achieve this end through hard work and effort.

This is his first loan through KIVA, and he is waiting for this financial aid in order to continue working, and he also promises to be punctual in his payments. Herminio will invest the 1000 Soles in buying organic fertilizers to add nutrients to his fruit crops.
