A loan of $800 helped to buy compost.

Maria's story

María, 33, is married and has two children that live with her in a rented house. María is an enterprising woman; she works in agriculture. María has learnt to grow carrots, peas, beans, potatoes, corn and other vegetables. She says that the produce that makes her more proud is peas, because it is the one with the higher demand, at least during the good seasons. Sometimes prices drop to the floor and María uses the remaining produce as back up.

María is an intelligent woman. With this activity she is able to give her two children a good life and satisfy their basic needs. Her goals are to increase her vegetables production, taking advantage of the fertile soil in her locality, and renting more land.

This is María’s third loan with Kiva, and she feels very happy with the financial support she is receiving to continue with her plans. She promises to pay the installments on time. María will invest the 2000 soles [PEN] in compost to nurture her fields for the upcoming season.
