A loan of $1,625 helped a member to pay school fees for his children, and to buy house building materials such as iron corrugated sheets, nails, cement, etc. for the construction of a dwelling house.

Abdul's Group's story

Pictured here are teachers of a primary school located in Koidu, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org to apply for a loan of 7,000,000.00 Sierra Leonean Leones for the entire team. With the help of this loan, they can meet their immediate and most pressing financial needs. And at the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Abdul (who is pictured in the right) is the featured leader of this group. The 39-year-old is a native of Koaquima, in eastern Sierra Leone. He is married to a house wife and the couple have three children – two are in primary school and one is in secondary school. Abdul has been a school teacher for fifteen years now.

Abdul has requested a loan in order to pay school fees for his children and plans to use the rest of the loan to buy house building materials, such as iron corrugated sheets, nails, cement, etc. for the construction of a dwelling house.
