Giliam Mercedes's story

Giliam Mercedes is 41 years old, married with one 16-year-old child who attends school. She comes from La Paz Centro, a place that is located in a western area of the country. She is characterized as being a hardworking and responsible woman with a desire for self-improvement. Unfortunately she was not able to pursue a university education but she would have liked very much to have studied social work. She struggles every day to provide her child a better life.

Thanks to her effort and her desire to get ahead, she has as her economic activity the sale of merchandise in general such as pants, shirts, skirts, shorts, bed linens, t-shirts and dresses. The business is located in her home and also she works as a traveling vendor. She dedicates some 10 hours a day to her business with a bundle of some 20 kg, offering her merchandise to regular and casual customers. The objective of the loan is to invest in working capital and stock her business so that in the not-too-distant future she can obtain better income. Giliam Mercedes is grateful for the help that the Kiva investors provide to people of limited resources and poor countries like Nicaragua.
