A loan of $3,150 helped a member to buy sheep.

Puerta Del Sol Group's story

The 'Puerta del Sol' community bank is about to start its fourth loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Senkata regional office. The group has eight members and is run by a board of directors, with Amalia serving as its president. The businesses that the members of this community bank are engaged in are varied and include: sheep sales, hat sales, food sales, selling drinking glasses, weaving blankets, selling coca leaf and selling fruit.

This loan will benefit these small micro businesswomen. Amalia says that she has been a member of Pro Mujer for two years, having joined through an invitation from a friend who was already a member. Amalia has a small business selling sheep for meat. She says that she set up the business a few years ago with some sheep that her parents gave her as a gift when she had her first child.

Amalia is requesting this loan to increase her working capital. She will buy sheep in the provincial markets and then later sell them in the city of El Alto. This work allows her to make income. She lives with her common-law husband and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Amalia replied that she likes the health services.

In this group: Amalia , Mariana, Elizabeth Rosio, Miriam Rogelia, Teodora, Margarita, Elena, Eufenia
