A loan of $1,175 helped to hire local laborers and buy organic fertilizer.

Lucia's story

Lucia is a 43-year-old widow and single mother who is raising her three children the best she can. They live together in their own home which is made from solid building materials.

Lucia's business is farming. She grows organic cacao. In order to keep her business running smoothly, she must always have capital available so that she can hire local laborers in order to help with tasks such as weeding, pruning and harvesting. Organic cacao is a product whose profitability varies according to its quality. For this reason, it is essential that Lucia constantly provides adequate care for her crops. In addition to hiring laborers, Lucia must also buy sacks of organic fertilizer so that she can add to the natural nutrients found in her soil.

This is Lucia's second Kiva loan and she is very grateful for the financial support that she receives. On this occasion, she needs 3,000 soles to hire local laborers to carry out this season's second weeding. She will also buy organic fertilizers in order to ensure she produces a good-quality harvest.
