A loan of $775 helped a member to buy a good arum seed and rice seed.

Thy's Group's story

Age 47 and a mother of five children, Thy is a local villager from the Sa Ang district of Kandal province. For her family, arum planting and rice cropping are the main source of family income which has provided her about 6,500 KHR per day. She has been engaged in the current business for 28 years and is able to save about 2,000 KHR per day from her income after offsetting the expenses.

Including this loan, she is a second-cycle client with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). With her first loan she is able to better support her living in a gradual manner and managed to buy a decent motorbike for her family. In need of working capital to buy good arum seedlings and rice seed, she formed a group of three to apply for a new loan. She hopes that this loan will help her to grow both of her cash crops on time and get back more yield. (Arum has an edible root, a source of starch.)
