Houch, age 64 and a mother who has been blessed with two children, is a resident of Kandal Province. In this area, rice farming is one of the common businesses. Like many of her neighbors, Houch does rice farming, on two hectares of land. She has been in this business for ages -- 40 years!
Including this loan cycle, she is a second-cycle client of VisionFund, Kiva's partner. She has fully paid back her past loan and has managed to use it in a smart way, to upgrade her livelihood. For this cycle, she is going to use part of her loan to buy fertilizer for her rice farmland, and part of it to buy pigs for raising, to earn additional income. She hopes to earn more income from her business and sustain her living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
