A loan of $975 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Gregorio's story

Gregorio, 56, is single and lives without any relatives in his town because his family is located in another part of the country. He has his own house, where he works every day in order to give himself a better quality of life. Gregorio's work consists of agriculture; he makes a living planting and harvesting two products fundamental to the area in which he lives. His palm oil crop and product is sold to a very large industry dedicated to making oil, but he also makes a living through the cocoa crop, which he sells to various buyers who come from other places in search of these products because the region produces the best of these fruits. Both crops are promoted as an alternative to the coca leaf.

He has six years of experience working with cocoa and four years of experience with palm oil plants. He works alone, and when there are planting and harvesting seasons he hires some workers who help him complete the orders on time. He likes his job because he is in contact with nature and it is an environment in which he feels very comfortable. He loves what he does; it is going well and he hopes to form a business dedicated to transforming the cocoa as a raw material into a finished product.

This is his fifth loan with Kiva and he is very grateful for the opportunity they gave him to invest more in his products. With the requested amount of 2500 soles he will purchase fertilizer for his organic palm oil and cocoa crops.
