A loan of $600 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Beronico's story

Beronico, 53, is a widower who lives with his mother and four children in his house. Beronico makes a living in agriculture. He has his own 36-hectare plot of land where he'll grow at least six hectares of oil palm trees because of the current demand for this alternative crop.

He has been in this business for more than seven years. He hires up to two laborers to help him, paying each one 20 nuevos soles [PEN] per day. He also has the support of his children. He considers his business profitable because of the demand for this product and the good profits it gives him.

He says he enjoys his country life because it has brought him great joy such as the income to pay his own household expenses. In light of his good results, he plans to continue with his job and expand, doubling his hectarage of planted oil palms.

This is his third Kiva loan. He's happy to have the financial support to firm up his plans. With the requested amount of 1500 nuevos soles he'll buy organic fertilizer for his oil palm crops.
