A loan of $200 helped to buy candy and cooking ingredients.

Luz's story

Luz, 60, is married to Abdias, with whom she has three adult children. They live together comfortably in their own house with their 19-year-old grandson.

Luz's business is selling food in a small stall located across from a health clinic. She sells a variety of regional dishes and daily menus to her distinguished customers. She gets up very early to shop for the ingredients she'll use to prepare her dishes.

She has been in this business for eight years already and she has her husband's help in waiting on the public. She likes her business because it has brought her great personal and financial satisfaction. She started selling juice, then moved to selling food with a movable table. Now she has a locale, having learned how to acquire good customers. In light of this she has plans to support herself with her business because of her age.

This will be her fifth Kiva loan. She wants a small loan so she can realize her goals. With the requested amount of 500 soles [PEN] she'll buy candy to improve her product variety as well as the ingredients to make her dishes, looking for better prices with wholesale purchases.
