Women In Action Group's story

In the photo are members of the “Women in Action” group. They are small-scale businesswomen based in Koidu, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. Together, they are requesting a loan of 3,500,000.00 SLL in order to expand on their respective businesses, make more profit and consequently improve their standard of living.

The leader of this group is Mariama. Mariama is 42 years old; she was born in Kono, in eastern Sierra Leone. Mariama is married to a security officer, and the couple has 4 children, 3 of whom are attending primary and secondary schools. Mariama has been a businesswoman for 6 years now. She sells food in a market – rice, palm oil, margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), salt, pepper, etc. Mariama is going to use her share of this loan to buy rice, palm oil, margi, salt, pepper, etc., in bulk to add to her current stock.
