Wendi's story

Sixty-four-year-old Wendi is an enterprising, cheerful, and very hardworking woman. She is the widow of her children's father. She lives with her daughter and her grandson in the home she bought many years ago. Wendi sells prepared meals during lunchtime hours, such as fried rice, fried chicken, grilled chicken, and other dishes she knows how to make. She has two tables and chairs she sets up in front of her home to serve her customers. Her daughter helps her with her work. She also sells cold soft drinks and candy inside her home, where she has a display case where she can keep the drinks to sell at the temperature her customers like in this hot area.

She started both business over six years ago.

She likes her work as it gives her a source of income and because it is in the comfort of her own home. It makes her feel productive and it keeps her occupied. She has a regular clientele she was able to build over time. She wants to keep going with her business and grow even more. This is her third loan with Kiva. She is very happy to know that she can count on financial support, as this gives her the confidence to move ahead with her business. She also promises to once again make her payments, as she did with her previous loans.

With the requested 1,500 nuevos soles, she will buy foodstuffs and ingredients to prepare dishes, such as rice, oils, chicken, meat, and vegetables, among others. She will also buy soft drinks and candy in bulk, seeking out the lowest prices to make the most profit.
