A loan of $600 helped to buy fertilizers and animal vaccines.

Maria Natividad's story

María is 30 years old, single, and lives with her family in Guaranda canton, in Bolívar province.

The Mushuc Pakari community bank has 10 members who are all farmers and live 40 minutes away from the office.

María's business is selling vegetables. She grows potatoes, beans and melloco (a native root vegetable). She also raises cows and pigs.

María will use her loan money to buy fertilizers, and vaccines for her livestock. The loan will help her to raise her animals and improve her crops. She makes her purchases in Guaranda canton.

María's dream is to own her own home and to have a large vegetable business. The challenges that she faces are pests that attack her crops. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family.
