Amina is 31 years old, a hardworking woman living in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, with her husband and one son. Her husband is working in a garment shop. Her son is eight years old and he wants to be a doctor. Amina is working hard to fulfill the dreams of her son. She has been helping her husband by stitching clothes in her house from 2003, as her husband’s income is too low to meet the educational expenses of their son. She has been operating her business very efficiently and honestly and her clients always appreciate her work.

As a member of a two-person lending group, Amina has requested a loan from Kiva’s partner BRAC Pakistan. With the loan amount, she wants to purchase a new sewing machine as her old machine is not working properly and it’s very difficult for her to continue the business. She can increase her production by stitching more dresses in less time and she can work efficiently with a new sewing machine.

With the profit amount she wants to pay the educational expenses of her son. She is very hopeful that the loan will be a productive one for her and she is very thankful to Kiva and BRAC Pakistan for their help.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
