SANTIAGO, Peru / Primary/secondary school costs

A loan of $400 helped to cover his children's education expenses.

Fernando's story

Fernando, 45, lives in the city of Ica, in the district of Santiago, with his wife and two young children whom he loves and who are his main reason for living. He is friendly, hardworking and enthusiastic. Together with his wife he puts all of his effort into getting his family ahead. Unfortunately, due to lack of money and the need to work from a young age, Fernando wasn't able to study a professional career. In his free time he likes to distract himself by watching television. On occasion he cooks delicious chicharrones [fried pork rinds] to share with his family.

By his own initiative, with a lot of tenacity and dedication, Fernando works as a janitor in a local business in his city. He works every day for around 10 hours and believes it's going well because of his effort and the friendly manner in which he treats others.

Fernando is very grateful to the Kiva lenders, since thanks to their help he will be able to cover the costs of education for his children, such as school entrance fees, uniforms and school supplies. This way his children will have the materials they need to adequately attend their classes. He will continue working and making an effort to achieve his dream of giving his children a good education.
