A loan of $1,775 helped a member to buy newspapers and lottery tickets.

Nuevo Florecer (Cuenca) Group's story

The Nuevo Florecer communal bank is made up of six ladies and one gentleman who live in the city of Cuenca. This city enjoys an architectural beauty and was named as a World Heritage Site. It also has various areas to enjoy nature and it’s variety of food that captures the pallet of those who visit. Its people all maintain their cultures and traditions. They are all ladies who work daily to get their families ahead.

Marthat Isabel is one of the ladies. She is 31 years old, is a single mother of one daughter, and they both live in a rented home with her parents. They share the household expenses.

Martha Isabel sells lottery tickets, newspapers, and magazines. She has been doing this for 15 years and works daily without a fixed schedule.

She will use the money from this new loan to buy newspapers and lottery tickets. She enjoys the communal bank because the loans allow her to continue with her business and because of the camaraderie within the group.

Her goal is to complete her university studies.
