A loan of $975 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Manuel's story

Manuel is fifty-seven years old and is married to Rayda. Together, they have four children, but only two of their children still live at home. They live in a very small village.

With the smile that he is characterized as always having, he says that for 28 years, he has made a living in agriculture, growing potatoes, peas, lettuce, beans, and carrots. What he grows the most of are garden vegetables, since they cost more and offer the best profits. He says that he sells his crops after each harvest at the wholesale market in the city. However, if the selling price is very low, he travels to the capital city to sell his products, offering him a better price. He also makes a living in livestock farming, caring for cows, bulls, donkeys, rams, and pigs. After fattening the animals, he sells them for a better price.

His main challenge is not having his own working capital; he comments that the sale of his animals helps with this, and it is for this reason that he hopes to improve the care of his animals in the future.

This is his fifth loan with KIVA, and he therefore promises to be punctual with his payments.

Manuel will invest the 2500 soles in the purchase of organic fertilizer for his crops.
