Living in a rural area located in Battambang province’s Kam Rieng district, Vy, 39, has four children in total. All her children are dependent on her and are still in school. Vy and her husband are farmers who have been growing cassavas for 12 years. The current business earns her about $8 US each day after daily expenses.
Vy has been with VisionFund for two cycles and completely paid back the loans, which have helped her improve her livelihood from cycle to cycle. Now she is applying for a loan. Vy is going to use her portion to buy fertilizer for her farmland and use a portion of it to spend on plowing the field. She hopes this loan will enable her to grow a healthy crop of cassava to improve her family’s living standards.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
