Sophea, originally from Kampong Cham province’s Ponhea Krek district, is 36 years old and a widow. She has two children to care for as they are still in school. One hectare of rice cropping and one hectare of cassava planting are the main source of her family's income. To supplement the family’s income, she also works for others for a fee. From the current business, she is able to earn up to 32,000 KHR per day. This is the first loan for Sophea. She is seeking for 2,000,000 KHR to buy fertilizer and insecticide and to pay the plowing fee. She hopes to gain a high yield and sell it with a good price so she can build a new house for her family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
