A loan of $1,075 helped to buy clothes, perfumes, and purses, etc.

Etna Azucena's story

The Mujeres del Nuevo Milenio communal bank meets every 15 days in the Montecristi canton. The canton is known for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its artisan crafts, which are famous both nationally and internationally. This is where the famous toquilla straw hats are made.

This is where Etna, age 87, lives. She is divorced, but she has an adult daughter from this relationship. She lives with her and her family.

Etna is a woman who has always liked getting ahead with her work. She sells various products like clothes, purses, creams, perfumes, wallets, and many other things. She makes most of her sales at her house. This is because she has very good clientele, whom she sees when new merchandise arrives.

Her daughter travels to Panama, and she brings the merchandise from there. She has been in this business for over 20 years. That is how she has gotten ahead by herself without being dependent upon anyone.

This loan is to buy clothes, perfumes, and purses, etc. She has been in the communal bank since its beginning. She likes it for the benefits and the help she has received from the institution.

Her dreams are to be healthy and to get ahead.
