A loan of $4,175 helped a member purchase potatoes by the quintal.

25 De Octubre Group's story

The communal bank “25 DE OCTUBRE” is starting their fourth loan cycle with Pro Mujer through the regional office in Cascada. The group is made up of twelve members and is directed by a board of directors with Faustina as its president. The members engage in various types of businesses such as soft drinks sales, clothing sales, neighborhood store, cosmetics sales, grocery sales, food sales and fried food production.

The loan they are requesting will help small businesses like Faustina’s. She says that she was invited to join by one of Pro Mujer’s loan officers who visited her at home. She has been a member for six months. She currently has a business making fried foods. She says she learned this business from her mother who used to sell these products and later on, decided to start her own business.

She will use the loan to increase her capital by buying potatoes by the quintal that she will purchase wholesale at the markets in the city of El Alto. She will then cook them and sell them from her place of business. This work allows her to generate resources to maintain her household as she is married and has a daughter.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responded that she likes the training sessions on health and savings because they have given her good advice.
