Janjay's story

Janjay is 46 years old and lives in Margibi County, which is the largest producing rubber plantation in Liberia. She has six children between the ages of 11 and 23 who are in school and live at home.

For the past ten years, Janjay has been running a cook shop (restaurant) where she sells delicious Liberian food, and also cold water and soft drinks. She spends 12 hours with her business, and she said, “I am a business-minded person, and hardworking.”

A problem Janjay is facing is the complaining of the customers (high price of food). She says she makes a lot of profit, since she is one who prepares a delicious Liberian dish. She started this business with help from her mother, and learned this way of selling from her.

Janjay is requesting a loan to buy more rice, onions, pepper, oil, charcoal, cold water and soft drinks for her business. Her plan is to build a house.
