A loan of $400 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Maria's story

María is 53 years old and is a happy woman. For 25 years she has lived in her parents' house with her husband Aquiles and their 4 children. Her primary financial income is centered around raising cattle. Currently she has 5 cows.

A few years ago she got started with just one cow. From there she learned that she had to care for the cows well so that they produce good milk. She had to plant the grass that they eat herself. In addition to feeding them well so that they give good milk, little by little she has been buying cows one by one, as permitted by her savings and her earnings.

Her 5 cows now produce 12 liters of milk each. She says that she sells part of the milk to the milk processing company in Tarro and she uses the other part to make cheese. She sells this cheese to her neighbors, who buy from her every day. María now dreams of possessing more cows and thus having greater earnings.

This is her second loan with Kiva. She promises to be punctual with her payments, as she is grateful for the financial support that helps her improve her crops. María will invest the 1,000 Peruvian nuevos soles in buying organic fertilizer to nurture her alfalfa crops, as her cows eat the alfalfa.
