A loan of $50 helped to buy 10 low-cost LED lights to resell to rural households without electricity.

Jean De Dieu's story

Jean de Dieu is a 34-year-old man from Gakenke District in the Northern Province of Rwanda. He works as a shopkeeper. Jean de Dieu started selling lights in January 2013 and to date has sold 40 lights, providing clean energy to 200 people.

Jean de Dieu is requesting a 50 USD loan to purchase 10 rechargeable LED lights to resell to people in his village without electricity. Every week or so, his customers will return to have their lights recharged for just 20 cents. Jean de Dieu will reinvest the profit from his loan into his shop to earn more money for himself and his wife.
