A loan of $5,850 helped a member buy white and black chuño.

Estrellitas Group's story

The community association “ESTRELLITAS” will begin their seventh cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Patacamaya Focal Center. It has eight members and is directed by a board of directors of which Ruth is president. The association's members are involved in various different business activities, which include the sale of chuño (dehydrated potato), potato, corn and other vegetables, the sale of food, the sale of cheese, sewing skirts and pants and potato farming.

The loan will benefit micro-businesswomen of which Ruth is a member. Ruth joined Pro Mujer six months ago when a member of the institution visited her at her home and invited her to join. Currently, Ruth works selling white and black chuño and potatoes. She learned this business from her parents years ago and it is currently her primary source of income.

She will use the loan to increase her capital (buying white and black chuño), which she will purchase from distributor companies. She will then sell the chuño in the city of Oruro. This method of work allows her to generate income to help maintain her household as best she can as she has five children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Ruth answers that she likes the opportunity for loans and the training they offer.
