A loan of $700 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum.

Serial Farmer Group's story

Catherine’s group has 18 farmers and is located in the Teso District. Catherine is pictured on the right of the Serial Farmer Group with her hand raised. Catherine is pictured amongst the 5 men and 13 women of her group. She will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum, millet, and sweet potato. Catherine is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for her family and use the increased profits to send her children to school.

Catherine thought her harvest last year was poor. She hopes that as a One Acre Fund farmer she can have an excellent harvest. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and repair her home. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Catherine’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 9 acres of land.
