Mukwano Group's story

Maurice’s group has five farmers and is located in Chwele District. Maurice of Mukwano Group is pictured on the right with his hand raised. Maurice is pictured amongst the two men and three women of his group. He will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum, millet and sweet potato. Maurice first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Maurice joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and to use the increased profits to send his children to school.

Maurice described his harvest as good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He plans on using the future profits from the harvest to send his children to school and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Maurice’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 2.5 acres of land.
