A loan of $475 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of sweet Potatoes, millet, and sorghum.


Mkulima Group's story

Rabecca’s group has 12 farmers and is located in the Chwele District. Rabecca is pictured on the right of the Mkulima Group with her hand raised. Rabecca is pictured amongst the 2 men and 10 women of her group. She will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum, millet and sweet potatoes. Rabecca first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Rabecca joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and use the increased profits to send her children to school.
Rabecca described her harvest as excellent last year as a One Acre Fund farmer and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and buy cattle. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Rabecca’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6 acres of land.
