A loan of $400 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of sweet potatoes, millet, and sorghum.

Bidii Group's story

Florian is pictured on the right with his hand raised amongst his Bidii Group members. The 10 of them, 6 women and 4 men, are farmers in the Chwele District. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of sweet potatoes, millet and sorghum. Florian first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Florian joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and grow enough food for his family.

Florian described his harvest as good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and buy cattle. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Florian’s group will receive 5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
