A loan of $425 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of sweet potatoes, millet and sorghum.

Mwangaza Group's story

Hellen is a member of the Mwangaza Group in Teso District. She is pictured with 11 One Acre Fund farmers, 7 women and 4 men. Hellen is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of sweet potato, millet and sorghum cultivation. She is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and will use the increased profits to send her children to school.

Hellen thought her harvest last year was poor. She hopes that as a One Acre Fund farmer she can have an excellent harvest. She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and to buy cattle. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Hellen’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5.5 acres of land.
