Makina Group's story

Chrispinus is pictured on the right with his hand raised, amongst his Makina Group members. The 17 of them, 9 women and 8 men, are farmers in Teso District.

Farming inputs will be delivered to Chrispinus on credit, consisting of the necessary materials to plant half an acre of millet, sweet potatoes and sorghum. Chrispinus first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Chrispinus joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and grow enough to feed his family.

Chrispinus reports that before One Acre Fund, he was able to grow about 3 bags of maize per ½ acre, but with his One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, he harvested 8 bags per ½ acre! He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and perhaps invest in another business.

During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive half an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Chrispinus' group will receive 8.5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
