A loan of $2,000 helped a member to pay for eucalyptus seedlings, fertilizer, training and plantation maintenance support.

Bendera's Group's story

Bendera is a thirty-eight year old mother of nine children. She is married but her spouse does not work. She cuts firewood to sell in the market, and sometimes resorts to making charcoal and coconut wine. She faces many challenges for her businesses including low prices for her firewood and charcoal in the market. She is excited to join the KOMAZA microforestry program because, in her words, "The stage after weeding the eucalyptus is shining and becomes nice in appearance!" She hopes to use the income from her KOMAZA trees to pay her children's school fees and to start a savings account in a bank.
