A loan of $1,050 helped to purchase more cocoa, indirectly helping her make more porridge to sell.

Ekua's story

Even though Ekua grew up in poverty without an education, this has not stopped her from fulfilling her dream of achieving a better life for her and her family. Currently, Ekua is an entrepreneur. She prepares and sells cocoa porridge in Nyame Bekyere (near Cape Coast). Her business enterprise has grown substantially since she started ten years ago. She uses the income from her business to help her husband raise their three children. Ekua has identified that there are growing demands among consumers for her product. Nevertheless, she is unable to meet their needs due to limited inventory capacity. She aims to use her loan to purchase more cocoa, indirectly helping her make more porridge to sell. With the new profits from her expanded business, Ekua wants to ensure that all her children will be given the opportunity to further distance their family from poverty.
