Njete Group's story

Betty is a member of Njete Group, in Chwele District. Njete Group is 10 One Acre Fund farmers, 9 women and 1 man. Betty is standing on the right side of the photo, with her hand raised. She is receiving an agricultural input loan for ½ acre of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Betty first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Betty joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family, and to use her increased profits to send her children to school.

Betty described her harvest as very good last year, but she believes she can have an even better one this year. She plans to use the money that she earns from her 2013 Long Rains harvest to send her children to school, and to buy cattle. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Njete Group members will take input loans of ½ acre, each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on five acres of land.
