A loan of $675 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum.

Mukulima Group's story

Richard’s group has 17 farmers and is located in Chwele District. Richard is pictured on the right of Mukulima Group with his hand raised. Richard is pictured amongst the 4 men and 13 women of his group. He will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum, millet, and sweet potato. Richard first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2007 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Richard joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to best input prices of hybrid seed and fertilizer.

Richard described his harvest as good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Richard’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 8.5 acres of land.
