A loan of $3,925 helped a member to buy house building materials like iron, corrugated zinc, sand, nails, cements, etc. for the construction of her family's house.

Ruth N.'s Group's story

In the picture above are teachers in Musaba, an outskirt of Makeni, in northern Sierra Leone. This group of hard-working and dedicated teachers have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of 16,900,000 Sierra Leonean Leones for the entire group. With the help of this loan, they can buy or invest in things that their salaries alone cannot let them buy or invest in. At the end of each month, their school’s bursar will deduct their repayment and repay SMT/Kiva lenders on their behalf.

Adama is the featured leader of this group. The 54-year-old is a native of Makeni. She is married to a trader, and the couple has 6 children, 4 of whom are attending primary schools. Adama has been a school teacher for 31 years now. She has applied for this loan in order to buy house building materials like iron, corrugated zinc, sand, nails, cements, etc. for the construction of her family's house.
