Terem Group's story

Joseph is a member of Terem Group, in Chwele District. He is one of the group's 16 One Acre Fund farmers, 7 women and 9 men. Joseph is standing on the right side of the picture, with his hand raised. He is receiving an agricultural input loan for ½ acre of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Joseph first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Joseph joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer, and to benefit from the best input prices, which One Acre Fund offers.

Joseph reports that before One Acre Fund, he was able to grow about 2 bags of maize per ½ acre, but with his One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, he harvested 10 bags per 1/2 acre! He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and to repair his home. For the 2013 Long Rains season, the Terem Group members will take input loans of ½ acre, each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on eight acres of land.
