A loan of $500 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer to cultivate sweet potato, millet, and sorghum.

Chikaze A Group's story

Leonard is a member of the Chikaze A Group in Chwele District. He is pictured with 13 One Acre Fund farmers: nine women and four men. Leonard is standing on the right with his hand raised. He is receiving an input loan for a ½ acre of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Leonard first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2009 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. He joined One Acre Fund to gain access to best input prices of hybrid seed and fertilizer. Leonard described his harvest as good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Chikaze A Group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, the group will receive input loans for use on 6.5 acres of land.
