Lwanyola Group's story

Josphat represents the Lwanyola Group, comprised of 10 women and three men located in Kakamega, North District. He is pictured on the right with his hand raised. Josphat is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of sweet potatoes, millet, and sorghum cultivation. He first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Josphat joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for his family and use his increased profits to send his children to school.

Josphat reports that before One Acre Fund, he was able to grow about nine bags of maize per 3/4 acre, but with his One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, he harvested 14 bags per 3/4 acre! He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and repair his home. Lwanyola Group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total, they will receive inputs for 6 1/2 acres of millet and sorghum.
