Matoi Women Group's story

Richard is a member of the Matoi Women Group in Kakamega, North District. He is pictured with 20 One Acre Fund farmers, six women and 14 men. Richard is standing on the right with his hand raised. He is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Richard is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. He joined One Acre Fund to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and grow enough food for his family.

Richard managed to harvest 36 bags of maize on two acres of land last year. As a One Acre Fund farmer, he hopes to harvest even more! He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and perhaps invest in another business. Matoi Women Group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total, they will receive inputs for 10 acres of millet and sorghum.
